Privacy Policy

Last updated October 6, 2026

Caboodle helps you catalog what you own, share it, and lend and borrow among friends. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, reach out. We're happy to explain.

Information we collect

  • Account details you give us: name, email, phone, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile from Google.
  • Your catalog: the photos, names, descriptions, categories, and values you add for your items, and their status (at home or lent out; at the Depot, once it opens).
  • What the AI reads: when you photograph a thing, the photo and any name you typed are read by an AI model (Google's Gemini) to name and categorize it, and that read is kept with the item. Afterwards the thing's own words, never the photo, are read again to infer details that help search and friends' asks (other names, uses, sizes). When you ask Caboodle a question, your question goes to the model too, with the names of your things, rooms and boxes, the names of your groups and your friends' first names, so it knows what and who you mean, plus the first name of whoever shares a thing with you and, when you ask who’s in a group, the first names of the people in it. When a friend asked around for something you have, it also reads what they asked for, in their words. When you tell Caboodle to remember something (“Sam is my sister”), it asks first, keeps your note in your own words, reads it with your later questions, and lists it under Privacy, where you can delete it. Your own name, anyone's full name or email, and what's in your chats never do: when you ask whether someone wrote, it learns only who and how long ago, and a message you ask Caboodle to send is your own words, shown to you, and sent only when you tap. An email address you type to invite a friend never reaches the model either: Caboodle reads it from your words, and the model sees “[email address]” in its place. Only when you ask Caboodle to look something up online (a book's rating, what a thing is worth), the titles, makers and authors of up to thirty of the things you asked about go to Google Search through the same model, with the names of people you know taken out; the answer says where each fact came from.
  • Addresses and location you provide, such as the place your things live. When the Depot opens, a pickup or delivery address so a driver can reach your door.
  • Payment information, once billing opens. Card details will be handled by a payment processor; Caboodle will not store full card numbers.
  • Usage and device data: basic logs and diagnostics needed to run the service reliably and securely.
  • The Depot waitlist: an email and ZIP code you leave so we can write once, when the Depot opens near you. Write to hello@caboodlestorage.com to be taken off it.

How we use your information

  • To provide the service: cataloging and sharing today; storage, pickups and deliveries when the Depot opens.
  • To manage your account and, once billing opens, to process payments.
  • To communicate with you about your account and support requests, and about deliveries once the Depot opens.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • To improve Caboodle and build new features.

Sharing your information

Your catalog is private by default. Items and categories are visible to others only when you choose to share them (with a friend, a group, or via a link), and you can change or revoke that access at any time. We do not sell your personal information. We share data with service providers only as needed to run Caboodle, and when required by law. Today they are Google (sign-in, turning an address you type into a map point, the AI model above, and Google Search when you ask Caboodle to look something up), Supabase (photo and document storage, in a private bucket), Resend (email), Apple, Google and Mozilla (push notifications), Sentry (error reports, with personal details switched off), Vercel (hosting and logs), Upstash (rate limits), OpenStreetMap (map tiles when the Depot map is shown) and Boring Avatars (preset profile pictures). Stripe will process payments once billing opens.

Your item photos and content

The photos and details you add are yours. We use them to power your catalog and any sharing you turn on. We don't use your private item content to advertise to you.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Housekeeping records go sooner: expired sign-in and reset codes after 7 days, revoked sessions after 30, alerts you have read after 90, our own measurements of how the AI performed after 13 months, and usage and staff audit records after 2 years. When you close your account, your sign-in stops working and you leave discovery, but we keep your catalog and your messages, so you can come back and the people you talked to keep their side of the conversation. To have your personal information erased for good, write to us; we then keep only what legal, tax, or security reasons require.

Your choices and rights

  • Access, correct, or update your profile and catalog from your account settings.
  • Control what you share, and with whom, at any time.
  • Close your account from Settings. Under Account & security you can download a copy of your data at any time, and ask us to erase your personal information; we verify it is you and confirm by email within 30 days. You can also write to hello@caboodlestorage.com.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

Children

Caboodle is for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Caboodle grows. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know.
